Fri 2nd Jun 17: Masterpieces From All Over the World Brought To Košice by Golden Beggar
As every year, seven members of the International Festival of Local Televisions Jury worked hard to select the best films from the more than 300 competition entries. The winning films will be presented during the 23rd edition of this unique Festival, which will take place from 7 to 10 June 2017.
This year again city of Košice will host the renowned Golden Beggar festival. Audience in Košice will have a chance to enjoy competition entries selected by the international Jury that will be screened in Dom techniky. “We had more than 300 entries this year, so the Jury really had a lot of work” said Festival Director Eva Děkanovská. Similarly to previous years, the Jury is presided over by Swiss actor and presenter Roger Worrod.
The films compete in three sections: winners will be selected in the Local Television, Production Company and Young Author categories. “This year, we’ve had authors from 53 countries enter the competition, among them filmmakers from Congo, Brazil, Lebanon or Iran” says Eva Děkanovská, inviting all Košice film fans to come to Dom techniky for the screenings that are held every day from 9 am to 1 pm.
Košice film fans are also invited to Úsmev Cinema on June 7 – 9, where they can see the selection of the best short films from previous years, as well as the premiere of the Serbian film Mamarosh and other feature films for all age groups. The programme will be available on the cinema website and screenings are free of charge.
Panel discussions and workshops have already become an integral part of the Festival programme. This year, participants will discuss hot European issues. On Thursday, June 8, panellists will talk about terrorism and war representing existential threat for the media; and on Friday, June 9, the discussion will focus on migration and refugee crisis from the point of view of media.
International Festival of Local Televisions Golden Beggar is the only festival of its kind in Europe. Since 1995, when the 1st edition of the Festival was held, authors from all over the world participated in the Golden Beggar competition with thousands of local films, local TV programmes or production company entries.
